This project is a still image of a planet bursting into pieces. We used a cell fracture add-on to get the chunky pieces. You could use a cell fracture add-on on just about any model or shape. After fracturing the sphere, we scaled and rotated the pieces to the right spot, before texturing and rendering. All in all, This was a really fun project, and we got a new taste of just how good some different add-ons can be.
